Stereotype- A belief about the personal attributes of a group of people. Stereotypes are sometimes overgeneralized, inaccurate and resistant to new information.
Self Perpetuating Stereotypes- Pls. Refer to page 369 of your social psychology book.
I have been stereotyped in 2 instances and they are as follows:
1) Kid- I may look like one ( in which I of course disagree..hehe)….and through this some judge me as someone immature and as someone who needs to grow up. I often hear some people say "grow up lynard!"but shouldn’t those people say that to themselves? I admit, sometimes I do act immaturely but you shouldn’t judge me based on those acts because that is also being immature. And all of us sometimes act immaturely. Another point is that sometimes when I couldn’t join an event or an outing, I often hear those words again "grow up lynard!"here is my answer to that…I have my responsibilities at home or elsewhere that why I couldn’t join you guys…but don’t you see…if I can I’d love to join you guys…like those outings in Laguna(1st class outing…yung kila Caesar), in EK and other events.
2) Makontra- I don’t know who started this stereotype….but common guys there are more instances that I agree that those that I don’t. it is just being highlighted by this stereotype. And if sometimes I disagree…it is just my view ( Individual differences remember?), I don’t mean to contradict or oppose what you say it is just that it is my point of view regarding that matter. And I do respect your opinions regarding those matter…and pls. respect mine even if it doesn’t fit yours. And minsan magsasalita pa lang ako…I would hear “O, ano kokontra ka nanaman?”, even if I would just like to say something…
I don’t intend to hurt someone or to pinpoint someone in this post it is just that I would like to point out my side…peace!
